There really is no age limit to achieving success in the prestigious UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship but it’s not always the most experienced racers who achieve the stand-out results
Every aquabike racer started his racing career and made his debut somewhere before going on to achieve success in the higher echelons of the sport at an international level. One such racer currently taking his first steps to success in the sport is young Australian protege Jayden Richardson
The Queensland youngster may only be 16-years-old but he claimed two world titles in 2022 in the Jettrim WGP-1 World Finals at the ISJBA World Finals meeting at Lake Havasu City in Arizona and has now graduated to the Ski Division GP3 class in the 2023 UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship
Jayden claimed his first Moto win in the 13-rider GP3 class at the Regione Sardegna Grand Prix of Italy in Olbia back in mid-June, having moved through the field to finish the opening heat 3.17 seconds clear of Hungary’s Csongor Jászai, with Estonian Mattias Reinass coming home in third. Richardson went on to finish third in Moto 2 and a hard-fought second in the third Moto to cement his status as one of the rising stars of global aquabike racing
He now heads to the season’s showdown on Lake Toba in Indonesia locked in a fascinating tussle with the likes of Reinass, Jászai and Alexandre Bourgeois for supremacy and title glory. Reinass (70 points) holds a three-point cushion over the Australian, with Jászai five points further adrift and Bourgeois 17 points down on the leader in fourth
