Cairo, Egypt – Abou Ghaly Motors hosted a joint Chinese and Egyptian media delegation, along with representatives from Geely and NASCO, during a dedicated visit showcasing the company’s operations and capabilities in the Egyptian market.
The visit was followed by a press conference attended by senior executives and representatives of the participating companies, where Geely, Abou Ghaly Motors and NASCO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore the local assembly of Geely New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in Egypt.
The agreement marks a significant step in the development of Geely’s NEV business in Egypt, paving the way for the assessment of local assembly capabilities aimed at strengthening supply, improving market responsiveness and meeting the growing demand for Geely NEVs in the Egyptian market.
Four Models Initially Under Consideration
Under the initial scope of the MOU, the three parties will explore the local assembly of four Geely NEV models, with the potential to expand the project in line with Geely’s future NEV portfolio and evolving market requirements in Egypt and international markets.
As part of the cooperation framework, NASCO will provide the required facilities and carry out the necessary modifications to the production lines. Abou Ghaly Motors will invest in preparing the facility and, in cooperation with Geely, will lead and oversee the project, while coordinating branding, marketing, sales, aftersales and potential export activities.
Geely, meanwhile, will provide technical support, production-line modification plans and CKD kits, in addition to supporting localization efforts, supplier qualification and quality-control standards.
Strong Start for Geely’s NEV Business in Egypt
The announcement comes amid strong early momentum for Geely’s NEV business in Egypt, which was launched through its authorized distributor, Abou Ghaly Motors, in May 2026.
By July, approximately one and a half months after the launch, Geely ranked first in new electric vehicle registrations in Egypt, highlighting the rapidly growing consumer interest in the brand’s electrified vehicle portfolio.
Another major milestone is set for August 29, 2026, when Geely will officially launch the Monjaro PHEV AWD in Egypt. The launch will make Egypt the first market outside China to introduce the Monjaro NEV globally, underscoring Geely’s growing focus on the Egyptian market and its confidence in Abou Ghaly Motors as a strategic partner.
Supporting Egypt’s Automotive Manufacturing Ambitions
The proposed cooperation between Geely, Abou Ghaly Motors and NASCO reflects a shared commitment to advancing local automotive manufacturing, developing Egypt’s domestic supply chain and increasing local content.
Beyond meeting domestic demand, the project could also create opportunities for future expansion and vehicle exports from Egypt, supporting the country’s position as a potential regional hub for new energy vehicle production.
The MOU therefore represents not only a potential new phase for Geely’s operations in Egypt, but also a broader step toward strengthening the country’s emerging NEV manufacturing ecosystem.
